Councillor Avtar Sandhu has been elected as Mayor of Dartford


Cllr Avtar Sandhu MBE has been elected as the Mayor of Dartford for 2014 to 2015.

He became the 36th Mayor of the borough at the council’s annual meeting on May 7.

Cllr Sandu has represented Newtown Ward since he was elected to the Borough Council in 2011, and represents the council on the council for Voluntary Service North West Kent.

He has chosen 31 local charities to support this year and aims to fundraise for them and increase their profiles.

Cllr Sandhu has lived in Dartford for 45 years and will be supported in the new role by his wife Sukh as Mayoress.

The Deputy Mayor will be Cllr Ian Armitt, who will be supported by his wife Lynne as Deputy Mayoress.
