Children and parents put on their walking boots for a sponsored mile to raise money for an outdoors adventure trail at their school.

Organised by Meopham Primary Schools PTA, volunteers turned out at Shorne Country Park to tackle the Trim Trail and raise money for playground improvements including an assault course adventure trail on the field and improvements to the outdoor learning area.

Paula Hickford of the PTA, who led the walk on Saturday, hopes it will bring in around £1,000.

“We’ve got a really good turnout and the weather has been kind,” said Mrs Hickford, who has two children at the school.

“We wanted to challenge the children and parents to get involved but also to get out and see the local woods while helping to provide equipment which will allow them to enjoy themselves outdoors at school.

Deputy head Becky Nicholson was also there to take on the Mile for Meopham. She added: “This was entirely organised by the PTA and we are very grateful to them. In total the adventure trail costs around £3,000 and the PTA has offered to pay for the whole thing which is fantastic.”
