THE sounds of Mexico will echo up and down the High Street as part of a festival organised by town businesses.

Held for the second year, the Gravesend High Street Festival is due to take place on August 30.

Crowds can witness the amazing feats of strongman Paul Carter, and watch the Salvador Mariachi Band, one of the leading performers of Mexican music that have played at celebrity events and festivals.

Rachel Barry, of Cabelos Hairdressers, High Street, Gravesend, is co-ordinating the festival which has been created with the support of Towncentric.

She said: "We want people to come to the High Street and enjoy themselves so we have music and surprises for them. It will be non stop action all day."

Also performing will be the St John's Irish Dancers, the Julia Young Academy and international food and Scalextric racing.
