A missing man, feared to have drowned whilst trying to save a 12-year-old girl in Gravesend on Sunday, has been named locally as Nathan Lane.
Tributes have been left at the scene of the incident, near Gravesend Promenade, where he went missing just after 3.30pm.
London Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre responded to reports of two people struggling in the water. A lifeboat was sent out from Gravesend to the scene, and four members of the public rushed to help Nathan and the girl.
She was rescued safely, but Nathan disappeared under the water.
Other boats from the Port of London Authority and Met Police joined the search for Nathan on Sunday afternoon, along with the Essex Police helicopter.
Gravesend RNLI are continuing the search.
