More than 130,000 Boxing Day shoppers hit Bluewater to take advantage of discounts.

Shoppers started queueing at 2am with lines lengthening to 4,000 people by 6am.

Robert Goodman, Bluewater’s general manager, said: “As anticipated, Christmas has taken off at Bluewater.

“We knew that Boxing Day was going to be busy when we saw a 10 per cent increase in sales of our Bluewater gift cards in the run-up to Christmas, which are usually redeemed in the Boxing Day sales. In addition, we saw a surge in traffic to our website on Christmas Day.”

Mr Goodman added that shoppers may have left it late this year but they are making up for it now.

The average spend per group at Bluewater this Christmas is expected to exceed £200 with each visit typically lasting three hours.
