A MOTHER who admitted killing her 11-year-old son is due to be sentenced today.

Jennifer Taylor, 45, of Knights Croft, New Ash Green, is expected to appear at Maidstone Crown Court after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

Her son James was found dead by police officers at their family home on December 2 last year.

Mrs Taylor was taken to hospital after being found in a critical condition at the same time and arrested and charged for murder a week later. A post-mortem carried out in March revealed Wilmington Grammar School for Boys student James had drowned. Traces of drugs were also found in his body.

Taylor entered a plea of not guilty to murder in March but the charge was subsequently dropped by the Crown and replaced with manslaughter.

On June 8 Judge Andrew Patience QC said he was satisfied Taylor was suffering from a mental disorder and accepted her plea of guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Since her arrest Mrs Taylor has been held in custody at the Trevor Gibbens Unit in Maidstone, where she is receiving psychiatric treatment.
