A nurse at a north Kent and Bexley hospice shaved her head to raise money for the charity yesterday (July 25).
Lesley Dawson, 49, from Welling, took on the challenge at the EllenorLions shop in Coldharbour Road, Northfleet, and has raised more than £500 so far.
The palliative care nurse, who has worked for the hospice at home charity for 18 months, said: “The idea for this sponsored head shave started as a bit of a joke in the office as I had been saying it was too hot to have long hair.
“One of the girls said they would pay to see me have it all cut off, and the rest is history as they say.
“My colleague clippered it to a number three and I think I could have gone even shorter. It was lovely that so many people turned out to support me. My two-year-old granddaughter was also there as I didn’t want her to be shocked.”
The charity has to raise more than £6million every year to keep running.
