The science teacher appears in the ‘Your Future: Their Future’ campaign

A new campaign aiming to inspire would-be teachers will feature a local ‘inspirational and charismatic’ face.

Northfleet Technology College science teacher Shannon Parsons will front the new ‘Your Future: Their Future’ campaign, in a bid to get more people into teaching.

The advert will appear on our screens throughout October and November, during programmes including Emmerdale and DCI Banks, as well as Channel 4 sitcom Damned.

Ms Parsons said: “I feel so proud to be a part of such an important campaign; the recruitment of new teachers is essential for the prosperity of future generations.

“I hope that people see it and think ‘I could do that, I should do that, I will do that’ which is exactly what happened to me.

“Some of my students have seen the advert - they were very excited to have a ‘famous teacher’.”

Chair of the National College for Teaching and Leadership, Roger Pope, praised the teacher.

He said: “Shannon is one of several inspirational and charismatic teachers who star in our TV campaign, which highlights why teachings is such a rewarding career.

“As a teacher you are changing young people’s lives for the better, inspiring them to fulfill their full potential and realise their ambitions.

“If people in Kent want to use their skills and experience to make a difference as a teacher, apply now and you can behin training in September 2017.”
