The station in Grove Road will be open on Saturday, September 10

After serving locals for 50 years, Swanscombe fire station will be throwing its doors open next month to celebrate its golden anniversary.

From 11am to 2pm on Saturday, September 10, the firefighters will be inviting local residents to take a walk around the station.

Watch manager John Allwright said: “Swanscombe is very much a community fire station and local people have always been very supportive of the work we do to help keep them safe.

“Since the station first opened its doors in 1966, developments in technology and training have transformed the role of the firefighter. Our visitors will get the chance to see our new, slimline fire engine and look at the wide-range of innovative firefighting equipment we use to protect them.

“But our work isn’t just about responding to emergencies, it’s also about preventing them from happening in the first place. Our open day is also the perfect opportunity to talk to people about practical measures anyone can take to stay safe.”
