Pensioner dies in Northfleet car crash

A pensioner has died in a fatal car crash in Northfleet yesterday afternoon (June 2).

Just before 4pm a black Vauxhall Corsa collided with a dark grey Honda Jazz on the A2 slip road junction.

A 72-year-old woman, a passenger in the Honda, was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the car, a 57-year-old woman, and the other passenger, a 73-year-old woman, were taken to London hospitals with serious injuries.

The passenger of the Vauxhall, a 29-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with suspected leg injuries.

The driver of the Corsa, a 30-year-old man from Dartford, sustained minor injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed until November 11 pending further enquiries.

The road reopened this morning (June 3).

Police are urging anyone who may have seen the collision to come forward.

Investigating officer Det Sgt Scott Lynch said: “This is a busy road and there is likely to be a number of people who witnessed this collision as they travelled along the A2 London-bound past the Pepperhill slips.

“I am urging anyone who saw what happened to call our witness line on 01622 798538.”
