A PERVERT who exposed himself and performed sex acts in front of 10 young girls as they walked to school has been jailed for a year.
Gavin MacDonald, 24, from Doria Drive, Gravesend, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court after being found guilty of the charges in January and remanded in custody.
During his appearance, as the Reporter went to press last Wednesday, he was also given a sexual offences prevention order.
MacDonald followed young school children as they walked to Thamesview School, Gravesend and committed the offences in the Medhurst Gardens area.
Detective Inspector Ian Dampier said: "I would like to thank all the children who have supported this successful prosecution. They showed considerable courage and understanding during this stressful period."
A total of 10 children provided overwhelming evidence during a two-week trial earlier this year, with many young victims caused further distress as they relived their experiences at court.
MacDonald was convicted of four counts of indecent exposure against a child, exposure against an adult and sexual activity in the presence of a child.
The offences took place from September to November 2008, while the offence of exposure against an adult took place in Maidstone. During his trial the court heard MacDonald had his 'scruffy' dog with him targeting small groups of schoolgirls near his home in late 2007.
Because of his denials, 10 victims, between 11 and 16-years-old, were forced to give evidence by TV link to the court. Most victims picked him out of an identification procedure. Teachers at Thamesview School, Gravesend, contacted police after pupils saw MacDonald expose himself as they approached Medhurst Gardens in October 2007. Similar complaints were made during the following weeks and he was arrested in November 2007. His conviction followed a lengthy investigation by officers from north Kent.
