THE trial of two police officers and a support officer charged with assault, perverting the course of public justice and providing a false statement is set to begin next month.

PS Marcus Garvey, 44, from Abbey Wood, PC Wayne Campbell, 40, from Cliffe, and PCSO Stefanie Loftus, 22, from Ilford, are accused of lying at a trial in March last year.

The trio, who were all based at Eltham Police Station, are charged with framing Benjamin Thacker for cannabis possession, who was later cleared at Greenwich Magistrates Court. The case was referred by magistrates to the Metropolitan Police.

The defendants are due to stand trial on September 7, which is estimated to last five to seven days.
