Advice on how to stay safe from pickpockets and burglars is on hand at the new pop-up community safety shop, in Gravesend.

The new service, which runs until Saturday, can be found next to Clinton Cards at St George’s Shopping Centre, and is staffed by members of staff from Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue, victim support and Kent County Council wardens.

Visitors will be offered free purse chains to help keep valuables safe during the Christmas period.

Gravesham Council leader, Cllr John Burden, said: “Christmas is a special time for the community and this year with the council’s Twelve Days of Christmas festival there has been a huge campaign to make Gravesend a great place to shop.

“We want shoppers and businesses to make the most of Christmas, that means everyone staying safe.”

The shop will be open from 10am to 4pm.
