Power wasn’t restored until after 3pm, and Gravesham council offices had to close as a result

A power cut in Gravesend caused the council offices to close as it was left with no electricity, yesterday, July 3.

Residents and businesses across postcodes DA11 and DA12 were reported to have no power from 9.30am until after 3pm, due to an ‘underground cable fault’.

UK Power Network originally stated the problem would be fixed by noon, but later updated residents saying the problem was bigger than anticipated.

A spokesperson for the power provider, said: “The issue was caused by another company working in the area. Our engineers investigated the fault and found it to be more complicated than first expected. We needed to send our specialist team to make repairs and therefore updated our estimated timeframe to have power back on between 2pm and 3pm.”

A Gravesham council representative, said: “Due to unforseen circumstance the civic centre will be closed for the rest of the day. We are hoping to open as normal tomorrow, July 4. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.”

The council are operating as normal today, July 4.
