All lanes have reopened
Traffic at the Dartford Crossing was heavy heading anticlockwise back to junction three on Tuesday afternoon.
The tunnel heading toward Essex was closed for urgent maintenance works.
A Highways England spokesperson confirmed the tunnel was closed due to a power surge.
Workers had to reset some of the tunnel’s safety systems before motorists could travel through the tunnel.
All lanes have since reopened.
