THE victim of a vicious assault needed a metal plate fitted to his jaw, a court heard.

Dean Sheppard, of Howard Road, Dartford, was jailed for two years after admitting causing grievous bodily harm following the fight in Gravesend.

Maidstone Crown Court heard on Friday how Sheppard, 29, was out on a bar crawl through the town centre when a fight started just after midnight October 3 last year.

His victim, a 22-year-old man, suffered a double fracture to his jaw requiring a metal plate to be fitted.

Detective Inspector Ian Dampier said: "This was a particularly violent unprovoked attack against a young man."

CCTV footage used in court showed the incident from a number of angles and a number of witnesses came forward to provide evidence to police.

Sheppard was arrested that night and subsequently charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm.
