A RECYCLING centre is due to open on Saturday (14) after a fire caused its closure.

Pepperhill Household Waste Recycling Centre in Northfleet has been closed since a blaze on Sunday morning.

Six crews of firefighters spent more than five hours at the centre in Station Road, after being called at 6.40am.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said the fire broke out in a rubbish bay at the depot.

It is thought to have destroyed about 100 tonnes of paper, and the building was heavily smoke logged.

The cause of the fire is being investigated
