THE town will host a week of music, carnival, sport and cultural events in what is being billed as the biggest festival the borough has ever seen.

The Big 7, sponsored by the Gravesend Reporter, brings seven magnificent days of family fun and entertainment to Gravesham between June 28 and July 4.

With seven main events to keep everyone entertained, it will culminate with the popular Big Day Out, held every year on the Promenade.

More details about the line up have now been released by Gravesham Borough Council, one of the main organisers of the festival.

A spokesperson said: "There is a huge range of events taking place, with highlights including The Big Gig, a free Friday night concert and parade, Iconic Film Night, where you can vote from a selection of films to be shown on the big screen, street theatre and entertainers and a recycled fashion show.

"Local organisations, businesses, schools and community groups have all contributed to the week-long celebrations."

The week begins with a big family fun run at the Riverside Leisure area on June 28, and then experience Las Vegas glitz and glamour as Elvis Patelvis and his assistant Vegas Girl will be stilt-walking along Windmill Street on Monday June 29.

On July 1, watch an iconic film at the Woodville Halls as voted for by residents, and the following day watch an afternoon of cricket at the Bat and Ball cricket ground, Wrotham Road, and a group of street entertainers performing in the town centre.

Friday's main event is The Big Gig, held at the Riverside Leisure area and features a host of performers from the borough. The free out door concert will feature bands, singers and dancers and will form a parade from Gravesend town centre to the main stage at the Promenade.

The week climaxes on the Saturday with the annual Big Day Out, held every year at the Riverside Leisure area, featuring live music, theatre performances, the annual Regatta, the Northfleet carnival and a firework finale.
