Scam debt enforcement officers

Gravesham borough council is warning residents to be on their guard from bogus workers who are claiming to be collecting money on behalf of the council.

The issue has been reported to the police.

While the council does use contractors to carry out visits, anyone working on behalf of the council is required to carry formal identification and documents which confirms that they have the authority to act on the council’s behalf.

Anybody with any doubts about callers claiming to be collecting money on behalf of the council are advised to ring customer services on 01474 337000.

The council is also urging residents not hand over any payments unless they are completely satisfied that the caller is acting on the council’s behalf.
