A section of the original Rathmore Road has been renamed as part of the town centre improvement works.

After consultation with the Gravesend Historical Society, Athboy Road was the name chosen for this section of road.

It was agreed that retaining the name Rathmore Road for the new alignment was the most logical option.

The town of Athboy was part of the Earl of Darnley’s vast estate in County Meath in Ireland, and it was felt that it was consistent with road names in the existing area - Darnley Road, Darnley Street, Cobham Street, and Rathmore Road itself.
