An electrical fault at Ramsgate caused severe delays on trains in the area this morning.

South Eastern have confirmed that at 6:22am the power tripped out on a train that had been leaving Ramsgate, resulting in four empty trains which were to form passanger services being trapped in the depot.

Response staff were on site within the hour and the issue was identified as a damaged power cable.

Ben Sharms, 22, from Ebbsfleet, said: “We all probably pay about 5k a year for this service and there seems to be no contingency plan.

“They’ve known about the snow and ice for over a week. It should not be still causing problems today”

The depot re-opened at 08:24am after it was deemed safe to allow trains to pass over the defective areas.

This had an impact on several passanger services, including the High Speed train to St Pancras, which affected trains leaving from Ebbslfeet.

The issue has now been solved and services are runing again.
