Gravesham council is holding a flag-raising event

Flag-raising ceremony to be held this morning

People in Gravesham are invited to a ceremony today to mark Armed Forces Day.

The flag-raising ceremony will take place in Gravesend Community Square at 12.30pm.

There will be addresses from Gravesham Mayor Michael Wenban and the Rev Jacqueline Littlewood, and the Gravesend Borough Band will accompany the national anthem and the raising of the flags. There will also be a parade and three cheers for the Armed Forces.

Armed Forces Day, an annual event to show support for Britain’s armed forces past and present, is actually on Saturday, and will be marked by an event in Guildford. But many local authorities and organisations are holding flag-raising ceremonies today.
