TWO talented sisters are eyeing up the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games in the gruelling pentathlon event.

Annie French, who attends Wilmington Grammar School for Girls (WGSG), in Parsons Lane, is only in the sixth-form but is already competing on an international level.

Although she is too young to try for the London 2012 Games, she is hoping to get to an Olympic level for 2016.

Miss French, of Shipley Hill Road, Meopham, is following in the footsteps of her sister Kate, 19, who is training hard at the Bath5 Modern Pentathlon Club for 2012.

Speaking to us last Tuesday (9), Annie said: "I would love to do it at Olympic level, though I have to do a lot more international competitions.

"I followed on from my sister. She is taking part in the world cup at Medway in April and has done a lot of international competitions."

Modern pentathlons involve five events - running, swimming, fencing, riding and shooting, but alternative events include skiing, shooting, swimming, fishing and ice dancing.

Kate has competed in three international competitions since 2005 and is taking part in The Bath International Modern Pentathlon on March 27 and 28.

Annie added: "I particularly enjoy the running and shooting combined event - it's quite exciting.
