Preparations are already underway for the St George’s Day celebrations which will be taking place in Gravesend town centre.
The festivities, on April 21, for our patron saint have been organised by Cohesion Plus in partnership with Kent Equality Cohesion Council, supported by Gravesham Borough Council and Arts Council England.
Gurvinder Sandher the artistic director of Cohesion Plus, said: “The St George’s Day celebrations in Gravesham are now well established. They highlight the positive community relations enjoyed in the borough and how the arts can be used to bring communities together to celebrate shared values.
“We should all be proud of what we’ve achieved with the celebrations which are a beacon other parts of the country could learn from.”
The celebrations in Gravesham will start from 9.45am with the Bollywood Brass and Premier Brass bands playing in King Street and the High Street near Gravesend Borough Market.
Entertainment will start on the Community Square at 10am where the Salvation Army Brass Band will be performing a special concert.
12 local schools and some 600 school children will take part in a parade which will start at 10.30am from outside Saint George’s Church and will head to the Community Square via the Town Centre.
The festivities will climax with the raising of the flag of Saint George on Community Square at 11.30am.
