Rumours of the new Star Wars making an R2-Detour to Greenhithe sent Twitter abuzz this week.

With its barren cliffs and disused quarry, the area surrounding Bluewater shopping centre could be an ideal landscape for the futuristic movie franchise.

As whispers spread of location hunters for Star Wars taking an interest here, Twitter users shared their amusement at the prospect.

@JonathanPearl4U wrote: “Headlines you thought you’d never see: Star Wars VII to be filmed at Bluewater shopping centre.”

@TheMichaelMoran joked: “Actually, a light-sabre would be just the thing to carve your way through the sales.”

Sadly, speculation turned out to be lukewarm as a Disney spokeswoman said: “There’s no truth in it. I doubt they would film there. Doctor Who has been filmed there and Star Wars has been in the news but that’s all there is to it.”
