Steve Brown has been confirmed as the new manager of Ebbsfleet United.

The former Charlton Athletic defender brings in Steve Gritt as his assistant. The pair know each other from their time at the Valley.

It was also announced that Joe Howe and captain Paul Lorraine have re-signed for next season while talks continue with four other players, including England C goalkeeper Preston Edwards.

It is the first top job for the new manager and he has said next season’s aim will be to get promotion back to the Conference Premier.

In a press conference at Stonebridge Road which saw Dr Abdulla Al Humaidias chairman and Peter Varney as executive vice-chairman, the latter added the club is hoping for home gates of between 1,200 and 1,500 next season.

The new owners, KEH Sports Ltd who are a subsidiary of Kuwaiti European Holdings have announced under 12s will get in for free next season and there will be one ticket price for the whole ground for paying fans.

Mr Varney said: “There is currently no reserved seating in the ground so it makes sense to have one price for all areas.

“I believe we have introduced a progressive pricing structure aimed at encouraging fans to support the team in increasing numbers and we will give the supporters a team out on the pitch that will be both competitive and entertaining.”

Brown has not ruled out trying to bring in youth players on loan as he looks to use the contacts of him and Gritt - the pair have spent almost 30 years combined at the Valley.

He said: “There’s potential for it.

“I’ve got a connection with that football club, it’s just a case of whether they will allow the certain players I may want to come down to this level.”

The mood of Fleet fans on Twitter was universally positive about the appointment of Brown and Gritt.

@Josh_Peck92 said: “Good day for #eufc. Not felt this positive about the club in a long time.”

@MikeMoyes_EUFC added: “If Carlsberg made Mondays, today is 1 of them! Great news from @EUFCofficial Steve Brown’s Barmy Army #eufc.”
