A childminder guilty of killing a Bexleyheath pensioner by careless driving at Bluewater shopping centre has avoided jail this morning (July 15).
Dawn Chedd, of Cranleigh Drive, Swanley, left the handbrake of her Vauxhall Zafira on January 4 last year and ran over Claire Bishop, of Romney Gardens.
The 71-year-old was pinned up against another vehicle and died of her injuries in King’s College Hospital, London, five days later.
Chedd, 51, was given a nine month prison sentence suspended for two years at Maidstone Crown Court.
She also has to carry out 200 hours unpaid community service, pay costs of £2,500 and has been banned from driving for two years.
Chedd had denied she caused death by careless or inconsiderate driving but she was convicted following a one-week trial in May.
