As this latest outbreak was announced, the government confirmed that the number of Britons who had died after contracting the H1N1 virus stands at 29, with a six-year-old boy from Strood the latest victim.

Health chiefs have warned that the number of cases could soar to 100,000 a day in Britain by the end of the month.
