The illustrated talk will run from Saxon times to the present day

Residents will have a chance to discover the secret history of Northfleet at an event taking place at Reliance Restaurant this month.

Local historian and tour guide Christoph Bull is to cover the whole of the ancient parish of Northfleet in the illustrated talk.

Subjects he will discuss include the importance of Northfleet in Saxon times, its role as the industrial suburb of Gravesham, the dockyard that once existed in the 19th century and the political scandal of 1880.

Mr Bull said: “The purpose of the talk is to bring people into contact with the place in which they live, so they do not just see it as the place where they sleep and commute from.”

The event will begin at 6pm on April 18 with fish and chip supper at the restaurant. The cost is £14, with booking essential via Reliance Restaurant on 01474 533593.
