A DANCER and former girls' school pupil who starred as an extra in the hit film The Boat That Rocked has reached the semi final of Miss England 2009.
Yasmin Pearce, 19, from West Kingsdown, will feature in the semi final of the contest at Champneys Spring health resort, in Leicestershire on June 8.
Miss Pearce, who is a former pupil at Cobham School for Girls, Cobham, has been dancing since the age of three and has performed at Her Majesty's Theatre in the West End.
She said: "I couldn't believe it when I found out. It has always been something that I have wanted to do, I have wanted to be Miss England since I was a little girl.
"My boyfriend took me to the finals in last year to watch the competition, but it would be great this year if I was actually on the stage instead of being a spectator. I feel so lucky to have got this far. It would be amazing to win."
Miss Pearce, who currently works at urban music brand TwiceasNice has also danced with the English National Youth Ballet in The Nutcracker, performed at the Sevenoaks Playhouse, and has gained dance grades in modern, tap and ballet dance.
She features in the latest Richard Curtis film which also starred Gravesend's Gemma Arterton.
Speaking about the film, she said: "I was invited along to the casting for the film, and was then chosen to be part of it. It was a great experience.
"I was paired off with Rhys Ifans in a few of the scenes, and I think the director Richard Curtis was quite pleased with our work because we only had to shoot our scenes a few times. It was brilliant. Hopefully I will be able to do more acting in the future."
The teenager made it to the semi-finals of Miss England after tying for first place in the fifth heat of the Miss Fresh Photographic contest. Glamour model Danielle Lloyd won Miss England in 2004.
