THE town centre library will re-open in a new temporary home in a shopping centre.

A new lease has been granted on a 5,000 sq ft space in the St Georges Centre for Gravesend library which opens on Monday, as a £2.5 million refurbishment of the Windmill Street site is carried out.

Nicky Blanchard, manager of the St George's Centre said: "We are pleased to have offered a solution to the library's short-term accommodation needs and believe that it will be a welcome addition to St George's, generating further footfall and activity within the centre."

Once the project is complete Gravesend Library will offer all the services it does now and more, including a room for library events and community meetings, a courtyard reading garden, more local history material and better collections of books and other materials.

Work is expected to be finished by late 2011
