Police were forced to close the A2 sliproad leading Ebbsfleet International for eight hours after a 38-tonne lorry overturned.

Hundreds of empty wooden pallets were left strewn across the road on Monday at 1pm when the articulated curtain-sided trailer lorry tipped over trying to negotiate a roundabout. The driver sustained injuries to his head and shoulder, not believed to be life threatening, and was taken to Darent Valley Hospital for treatment.

Police are unsure yet as to the cause of the accident. Road closures were put in place at the junction with the A2 sliproad coastbound and roundabout for Ebbsfleet International. The Springhead roundabout in Northfleet was shut shortly after 1.30pm.

All roads were fully reopened at 9pm, following recovery of the pallets.Diversions were put in place via the A2 Tollgate junction.
