M25 was gridlocked due to a lorry shedding it's load

Traffic is at a standstill on the M25 and stretches of the A2 following an accident this morning.

A lorry shed 45 tonnes of scrap metal at junction 1a - Swanscombe and Erith - at around 7.30am and the slip road remains closed due to recovery operations.

Congestion worsened after a four car collision on the M25 close to the crossing at 10.30am. There were no injuries.

At tailbacks had begun to affect traffic as far back the A2 as the Pepperhill roundabout, with Sainsbury’s shoppers stuck in the car park waiting to get out.
