Police searching for a crewman who disappeared when a tugboat sank in the River Thames on Friday have recovered a body from the water.

Darren Lacey, 40, of Gravesend, has been missing since the Chiefton tug capsized at 10.55am, prompting a three-day search and rescue operation.

Officers from the Met’s Marine Policing Unit recovered the body of a man at Convoys Wharf in Deptford, close to where it went down, at 5pm on Monday.

The Chiefton tug overturned after running into trouble at Convoys Wharf, near Greenwich Pier, after the crane barge it was towing jack- nifed.

The Department for Transport sent a team of Marine Accident Investigation Branch inspectors to the scene but admitted results of any probe could take weeks or even months.
