Essex Police confirmed that they were called earlier this afternoon (Tuesday, August 28) to reports that two lorries had collided just north of the crossing.

During the collision, one of these lorries had fallen down a roadside embankment.

As a result of the complexity of the vehicle recovery operation, the crossing was predicted to be closed for a number of hours,

This has resulted in large tailbacks on both sides of the river, including down the A13 and A127.

Both drivers are being treated for minor injuries, no arrests have been made and enquires are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the collision.

Witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage are asked to contact Chigwell Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting incident 647 of August 28. Alternatively you can email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk.
