Number of claimants now less than 1,000

Unemployment in Dartford has reached an all-time low.

The number of claimants has dropped by 41 per cent in the last year alone, and by almost two thirds since April 2010, from 2,196 people to 823.

This is the lowest since records began more than a decade ago.

Dartford MP Gareth Johnson said: “These figures are great news for Dartford and are a testament to the hard work carried out by various organisations, including the Jobcentre in Dartford and the Learning Shop at Bluewater.

“It is vital that we stick to our plan for economic recovery. Having one person out of work is one too many and, while these figures are very welcome, we should not be complacent.”
