A Stone resident says he woke up to a “big police presence” this morning as officers search a house in connection with the murder of Claire Tiltman.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, says there were around seven police cars, as well as four unmarked vehicles, in Myrtle Place.

“Obviously it’s to do with Claire Tiltman”, said the resident. “I woke up this morning and there were police cars in every parking space in the road.

“I spoke to one of the forensic guys, but he could only tell me they were taking pictures.

“There are only 40 houses in this road, and everybody knows everyone. It’s the kind of road that if you saw a bloke with his car bonnet up, someone would ask if he needed a hand.”

Claire Tiltman was killed 20 years ago near her home in Greenhithe. She was found with more than 40 stab wounds in an alley just off London Road.

Police remain at the scene in Myrtle Road.
