PUBLISHED: 09:55 01 August 2013 | UPDATED: 09:55 01 August 2013

A petrol station worker is critically ill in hospital after being dragged on a car bonnet for half a mile by fuel thieves in West Kingsdown yesterday afternoon (July 31).

The 58-year-old was working at the Texaco garage on the A20 London Road when the thieves struck at around 2.15pm.

As the car tried to speed off, the worker jumped onto the bonnet and carried him for half a mile down the road before he fell off.

The victim is being treated at King’s College Hospital in London and police are appealing for witnesses.

The car is described as a dark-coloured, small saloon vehicle and officers do not know if it was damaged it any way.

Police shut the A20 in both directions to carry out an investigation but it was re-opened at 5.40pm.
