Services will be taking place across North Kent this Sunday and next Wednesday
One hundred years ago, the First World War raged and the Gallipoli campaign had been under way for months.
The campaign would claim the lives of hundreds of thousands and this weekend the nation will pay its respects to all those who paid the ultimate price defending the country in wars and conflicts across the globe.
This Sunday morning, Remembrance Day services will take place across Dartford and Gravesend.
Following the services this weekend, there will also be further ceremonies on Wednesday, November 11 – 97 years after the guns fell silent during the Great War.
Since October 24, poppies have been available to buy in Dartford to raise money for the Royal British Legion, the charity supporting the UK’s armed forces.
Many will be wearing the poppy on Sunday as a sign of respect for fallen soldiers.
Last year marked the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, which saw around 900,000 British and colonial soldiers die.
We have highlighted some of the key ceremonies taking place across the local area, however there will be more taking place locally.
