A bridge in Wilmington will close for six weeks from Monday (July 22) while essential maintenance is carried out.

Oakland Lane Bridge, which goes over the A2, will be closed in both direction and a diversion will be put in place.

A Highways Agency spokesman said: “The maintenance work involves removing the current bridge surface, rewaterproofing, and then resurfacing it.

“Once the maintenance is complete in early September, the road will be open to two-way traffic for the first time since its temporary closure in January.

“This will improve journeys and maintain the structure’s safety.”

Traffic will be diverted onto Heath Lane, B2174 Princes Road and Lowfield Street.
