Wilmington pub melts hearts with generous offer during snowy weather

A Wilmington pub found ways to make life easier for people in need of support during the freezing conditions last week, and have been met with plenty of praise for their kind proposal.
The Horse and Groom, at Leyton Cross Road in Dartford, offered to help some of the area’s most vulnerable residents stay well-fed during the snowy weather by offering to provide them with a warm meal.
With flood risks, black ice alerts and snow preventing many from getting out and about during the few days of the icy weather, pub staff decided to do what they could to help out the local community.
The effects of Storm Emma were felt on a larger scale by the elderly and infirm, and so staff spread some community spirit by posting a message on their Facebook page an offer of a delicious homemade lamb stew to anyone in need.
The pub also invited those in need to either enjoy the meal with locals at the pub itself, or to arrange a delivery of the food to be taken to their door.
The post, which has been shared nearly 400 times, had hundreds commenting, praising the pub stuff for their thoughtfulness.
Sarah Prockter on Facebook wrote “I cannot thank Paul and his head chef Laura enough.
“I phoned them tonight with a request for food for a 91 year old couple opposite me and they delivered without fail.
“The couple were so pleased and grateful. The kindness of The Horse and Groom is amazing. Thank you.”
Paul Giles, general manager of the pub, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response our offer has had, which has been wonderful.
“We’re very appreciative of the community of Wilmington and the surrounding areas, who support us 365 days of the year.
“For us to do a small gesture like delivering a hot dinner at home during this snowy weather is just a small way of us giving back to the locals who mean so much to us here at The Horse and Groom.”
