TWO women were taken to hospital after being rescued when they fell 50ft down a quarry.

The victims were placed on spinal boards as a precaution after firefighters pulled them from the pit in Knockhall Road, Greenhithe, at 10pm on Sunday.

Six fire engines and a specialist line rescue team from Deal attended and took them to Darent Valley Hospital.

One team of firefghters rescued the first woman before another team abseiled down the quarry to reach the second. Their injuries are not life threatening.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said two ambulances were also at the scene during the rescue, which took two hours.
